Teaching Equipment for Strength of Materials

Designed for the educational and experimental approach to knowledge acquired in Strength of Materials and structural analysis courses.

Developed for education, the BED 100 enables controlled loads to be applied to simple or complex structures in order to put into practice the laws of material behavior, to design and study stresses and strains in a structure and at connections.

Description:

# MODULARITY:

The mechanical interface enables a structure to be clamped and controlled loads to be applied. A wide range of supports and connections allows a large number of combinations.

# ERGONOMICS:

Control unit on wheels, embedded electrical and computer equipment, ready to use. Quick familiarization with the testing bench to perform several manipulations during the practical session.

# EFFICIENCY:

Easily configurable interface enabling intuitive and optimized manipulation.

# PEDAGOGY:

Analysis of results in Excel® enables processing of raw values obtained during manipulation and working with stress and displacement evolution curves.

Practical sessions can be oriented towards:

  • Determination of second moments of area of simple and complex structures
  • Verification of deformation of complex structures
  • Characterization of materials and assemblies
  • Study of connections, Torsors
  • Design and application of beam theory, simple and combined loads.

Developed in partnership with professors of mechanics and engineering sciences, for high schools, BTS, IUT and Engineering Schools

  • Steel beam of 1 m meter in square hollow tube
  • Steel beam of 1 m meter hollow tube of diameter 20
  • Steel beam of 1 m meter solid tube of diameter 20
  • Aluminum beam of 1 m meter solid tube of 20
  • Bracket 500 x 200mm
  • Portal frame 500 x 500mm
  • Possibility to insert any other models of your own manufacture: e.g. bridge, building

 

Basic possible tests:

  • Statics: Static equilibrium of a solid subjected to three parallel forces / Static equilibrium of a solid subjected to three concurrent forces
  • Elastics: Tensile test on wire with force and displacement measurement / Compression of a beam (length up to 1 m meter) with force and displacement measurement
  • Beam Theory: Simple bending of a beam (length up to 1 m meter) fixed at one end with force and displacement measurement / Simple bending of a beam (length up to 1 m meter) on two simple supports with force and displacement measurement / Simple 4-point bending of a beam (length up to 1 m meter) on two simple supports with force and displacement measurement
  • Structures: fixed bracket / Portal frame

Optional accessories:

  • Additional electric actuator: + 1 removable point support + 1 force and displacement sensor connected via USB
  • Displacement sensor: Connected via USB
  • Instrumented fixed support: For force and moment measurements, connected via USB. Also used for measuring bending moment and shear force of a beam in bending
  • Instrumented fixed support: For force measurement connected via USB
  • Load distribution beam: For distributed load support
  • Beam: Beam of 1 m meter in glued laminated timber
  • Articulated truss
