Measurement of THERMAL Conductivity using the Educational Conductivity Meter Effusivity Meter
Complies with standards:
- ASTM D5930-97

HOT WIRE Method based on the thermal shock probe principle.
The Educational Conductivity Meter Effusivity Meter enables the measurement of thermal conductivity of all insulating materials such as polystyrenes, polyurethanes, mineral wools, fired/unfired clay, ceramics, plastics, woods, super insulators and many others.
Our device consists of a thermal shock probe, to be placed between two samples of the material to be characterized (symmetrical setup), an electronic data acquisition unit and a graphical interface software to control the tests and process the results.
Principle
The principle of the thermal shock probe is to produce a local low heating of the material (a few degrees above ambient temperature) and to measure this temperature rise over time (duration of a few minutes).
Through mathematical processing of this signal integrated in the supplied software, the identification of thermal conductivity is performed.
The temperature difference between the two faces of the specimen is applied using specifically dimensioned thermo-elements.
The heat flux is measured by thermopiles according to the cited standards.
The assembly is dimensioned to accommodate specimens of 150 x 150 mm and from a few millimeters to a few centimeters in thickness.
